Holyhead

The port of Holyhead is on the far west of the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales. The two ferry terminals, one for passengers and one for vehicles, are operated by Stena Line and Irish Ferries and run services to Ireland.

The town centre of Holyhead has many places to eat in addition to a cinema and theatre. Holyhead also offers excellent golfing, fishing and sailing facilities along with great scenery, beaches and walks.

There's a maritime museum where you can find out about the 100 or so ship wrecks in the area. The South Stack Lighthouse is worth a visit, along with the burial chambers of Barcloddiad Yr Gawes and the church in the sea of Porth Cwyfan.

The facilities at the terminal include cafes serving a selection of snacks and hot and cold drinks, there's also a mother and baby room, disabled toilets, a bureau de change and cash points.

Dun Laoghaire

Dun Laoghaire is a large town and seaport located on the foothills of the Dublin Mountains in Ireland. Dun Laoghaire is about 7 miles down the coast from Dublin.

Dun Laoghaire is thought to be the oldest town in Ireland. It was named in the fifth century by it's founder King Laoghaire, the High King of Ireland. He used the area as a sea fort (Dun) when he wished to start raids into England and France. King Laoghaire also allowed St. Patrick to preach the Christian message around Ireland.

It's connection to Ireland's history mean there are festivals almost every week during the summer months from June to September. In the town there are attractions such the National Maritime Museum, the Dun Laoghaire harbour with its East Pier promenade and the James Joyce Tower.

There are plenty of restuarants offering the typical irish fare, alternatively the are many pubs, most of which offer early evening and lunch menus.
